You can very easily repurpose those mesh produce bags!

The world is changing: we all want to waste less plastic. Plastic straws are being banned in a lot of places and governments are discouraging plastic packaging. Unfortunately, it’s hard to do without plastic and we often still buy a lot of things in plastic packaging. Luckily, we’ve found a way to repurpose the plastic mesh produce bags that lots of fruits and veggies come in. The good news: it’s super easy!

Everyone can do this!

Mesh produce bags

The mesh produce bags that a lot of fruits and veggies, like avocados, oranges and onions, come in can very easily be repurposed in the kitchen. How? In a few simple steps, you can make yourself a sponge out of it that is perfect to scrub loose caked on food from your pots and pans! The mesh net sponge is like a combination of a steel sponge and a scouring pad, which works perfectly for when you’ve burnt something in a pot or pan while cooking.

Want to know how to make these sponges?

This is how you do it

These sponges are super easy to make. What do you do? Snip off the ends of the mesh produce bag and throw these out. You can roll up one net into something resembling a bow tie and tie a bit of string around it. Got multiple nets? Bunch up a couple of them, put them into another net and tie this closed. This way, you’ve got a nice and compact sponge.

This is what the sponges will look like:

Cleaning

Use your handmade sponge to clean burnt pots and pans or use it in the bathroom! Lime, water and soap residue will be a thing of the past if you scrub them away with this sponge. Handy, right?
